Book Reviews:

Even though I'm not single I loved this book. It was very uplifting and inspiring. At the end I felt like I could do anything, accomplish any one of my goals in life and set new ones. I don't usually like books like this but, I thought it was a great read.

 Fantastic!
Being a 26 year-old VERY single, member of the LDS church I was very excited to read this book. I enjoyed that it had a mix of personal experiences, doctrine, ideas, etc. It was great being reminded that you are not alone and that you can make things happen in your life. I really enjoyed this book and many of the suggestions

To be completely honest I was apprehensive about reading this book and it's subject matter. I'm living the single life, I don't need to read about it and I definitely don't need to be reminded of all the ways I "fall short". Boy was I wrong, it was exactly what I needed. I was nervous that in reading about this authors accomplishments I feel discouraged with the life I was living, but instead I found quite the opposite, I feel INSPIRED and encouraged. Picking up this book was like sitting on the couch with a good friend as we laugh and cry and share our experiences together. I learned things I needed to do and change and don't feel alone. I loved the real-to-life concepts, they are simple and profound. I judge a book by the awakings it opens for me and the action it inspires me to take, doing both I give this book 5-stars. I would not only recommend it but read it again I hope you give it a shot, I know you'll enjoy it. I hope I can be a kigatsuku woman and live a Make it Happen life. in it. I am already working on my goal-list and making other changes to my life thanks to the motivating thoughts provided. Side note: Kylee if you ever need a traveling companion again I would be more than happy to volunteer. :)

This book instantly gave me a fresh perspective on my life. Once I started reading, it was SO hard for me to put down. Every page was filled with REAL experiences, insight, wisdom and INSPIRATION about how I can change things in my life to MAKE it a life I love. So many thoughts & ideas came to me that I had to take notes as I read! I feel like many other books surrounding this topic tend to discuss things more abstractly, making it harder to internalize the concepts and know HOW to go about making changes in your life. This author clearly explains every concept, gives detailed examples...and she is just so REAL! It was so easy to relate to her - I felt like I was sitting at lunch listening to my best friend lovingly give me advice & share her personal stories - both successes AND failures. I love how nothing she recommends seems too big or too daunting at all....you can easily see yourself incorporating a change here, and a change there, giving yourself a very different, much healthier perspective. I can't believe what this book has done to inspire me in just a few short days - I see things so differently already! Thank you, Kylee Shields, for sharing your life and your amazing soul with us!

Being single is something I happen to know a lot about. First, as a single young adult, and now as a single, divorced, mom. Though both experiences have been different, there has also been many of the same feelings attached to these different times in my life. Kylee Shields book, Make It Happen, A Guide To Happiness for LDS Singles, could just be called, "A Guide to Happiness for ALL People." I was pleasantly surprised, and quite pleased, to see that this book wasn't just another dating book about how to win a spouse. This book centers on becoming the best person that you can be, and in turn this will bring about happiness in your life, single or not.

One of my favorite aspects of the book came at the end of each chapter. After a great topic, like Validation, or A Matter of Heart, Kylee leaves the reader with "Action Questions". These questions help the reader focus on the topic just discussed and how to implement these ideas into their life. I found this a powerful aspect of the book, where I stopped and reflected on my life and considered how I could make some good changes.

Kylee shares such wonderful and rich stories from her life. You can't help but be lifted up and inspired to change your life for the better. The title of the book, Make It Happen, exudes with such positive energy, you can't help but be enthused to make good things happen in your life. I recommend this book to readers of all ages, teens, young adults, older adults...you name it! Everyone who reads this book, will come away with ideas of how to make happiness a part of their everyday life.

When I was invited to be part of this book tour, I jumped at the chance! I have a few friends in the single boat and wanted to know what this book had to say about the topic ..in hopes to find something to tell said friends. I got in the tour, I read the book, and what can I tell my friends? I don't think much that haven't crossed their minds already, but now just has terms/structure formed by the author ...and that's big! Ms. Shields had thoughts outlined well, had inspiring quotes and principles, and the "Action Questions" after each chapter served to put some reflective pondering. All good to get an LDS (Latter-Day Saint, aka Mormon) single motivated to enjoy the now instead of what he thinks should be.

I'm no stranger to the LDS single scene. I didn't get married until I was thirty-two, so I experienced the longing and heartache for a married-family life. Hence, I was able to relate to this book. Ms. Shields was pretty candid about her experiences and that's where the book took an autobiographical feel. It's a turn-off when there's a look at me/look what I have accomplished force to a read. So there were points in the read where it seemed to wonder off the main topic yet where she went was so inspiring that it didn't matter and it tied in afterall. It didn't come off as a look at me/look what I have accomplished obligation but rather sincere imparting of helpful ideas. Then it was the ending that just brought it to a home run.

Although this book is geared to LDS singles, the principles and planning guidelines would certainly benefit anyone wanting direction to living happy in the present and knowing the future is for the making.

A Great ReadJanuary 28, 2013
This review is from: Make it Happen: A Guide to Happiness for LDS Singles (Paperback)
I love that my family is so large, yet we are all so close to each other. It is amazing to see the great things that they do. One of these moments, is when you read your cousins book and you realize that she is an author. My cousins Kylee Shields is an author, who wrote a book. I read the book and I loved it! She gives great examples, experiences and stories of her life and what she has done to make the most of it.

Each chapter starts with an awesome quote or scripture. It gives the reader a good beginning for what that chapter is about. Although I am not single (but remember, I didn't get married until I was 26, and in the Mormon world, some may say that is old!) I learned a lot from this book and came to the conclusion that there are always areas where I can improve and become a better person, friend, husband and father.

Kylee is not afraid to put herself out there and share all of her experiences, good or bad. She tells about what she learns and what she can do to become a better person. Her positive attitude radiates through her words on each page and you can tell that she is a happy, motivated and positive person who is always looking for the best.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the book and give it a read. As you read you will have a motivating and exciting experience where you will want set some goals and get to work at becoming a better person in your everyday life, whether you are single, married, widowed or divorced. Read it, you won't regret it!

Make It Happen is an inspirational self-help book designed to help LDS singles find happiness in a marriage-oriented culture. Kylee incorporates quotes, doctrines, action questions, and real life experiences to illustrate the principles and ideas she is trying to convey. Even though I am not single myself, I have a lot of wonderful friends and family members who are and who are struggling to find happiness as an LDS single. However, the great thing about this book is that it is not just meant for singles; it can be applied to any person, in any stage of life.

There were so many topics covered in Make It Happen; everything from being in a healthy relationship all the way to how to make better use of your scripture study time. They are simple concepts that most of us have already heard. However, they are also explained and illustrated in a way that makes them seem "doable".

One of the best parts of this book is that the author not only tells you that you can change but she also tell you how to go about doing it using her own real life experiences. She doesn't claim to have all the answers (who does? :) but shares her own stories in the hopes it will be of benefit to someone else.

Make It Happen is an eclectic blend of encouraging and inspriational concepts, told in a friendly, conversational way and highlighted with relatable stories.

This is a great book for anyone. It doesn't matter if your single, married, or somewhere inbetween, Kylee shares personal stories that teach life lessons applicable to everyone.

I am happily married and yet I still felt very inspired by this book. I particularly enjoyed the chapters "No Fear" and "Make It Happen." Makes me want to conquer fear, set goals and forge ahead to make them happen!

Kylee Sheilds incorporates several great LDS quotes into each element of single life she touches on while also adding her own thoughts. How frank and yet how optimistic she is! This book promotes gratitude, and I am grateful for my family, my greatest blessing. MAKE IT HAPPEN supports the importance of family while also encouraging single adults to face the future with optimism and faith, being proactive in worthy pursuits along the way. This is a great book!
