I Am A Reader, Not A Writer: Author Interview
If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
I would go back to the past. I think I would like to hang out with F Scott Fitzgerald, C.S. Lewis, Poe, Emerson, Thorough, and like minded artists, painters and writers. I would like to dance with Fred Astaire and sing with Frank Sinatra. I would have a typewriter and a record player, and when I went dancing it would be to a club where everyone knows how to waltz.
What is one book everyone should read?
There is a book I have given out many times and I find myself returning to it often. I quote it multiple times in my book and have had many great conversations from it. It is called, “Making Loss Matter" by Rabbi David Wolpe. In his book he doesn’t just talk about death and the loss of life but of the loss of hope, home, dreams, self, and so much more. It is a timeless treasure.
Night owl, or early bird?
I operate best from the hours of 7-11pm. I am not a morning person and much more productive the later it gets in the day.
One food you would never eat?
Rye bread. I have severe allergies and I test a 5 (the highest) for allergic reaction.
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Everyone has dreams and goals they want to accomplish but sometimes they just need some inspiration to make them happen!
What's one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Keep writing and seeking your dream. There is so much to do and be a part of in the writing world. It used to be a writer’s dream to be published by some big name company but now there are so many options. You can self publish, be a blogger, write for a magazine, online books, poetry and so much more. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
What is your favorite Quote?
There are few quotes I keep coming back to but this is my currently favorite, “I had become a new person; and those who knew the old person laughed at me. The only man who behaved sensibly was my tailor: he took my measure anew every time he saw me whilst all the rest went in with their old measurements and expected them to fit me.” --George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) Man and Superman, 1903--
When you were little, what did you want to be when you "grew up"?
I wanted to sing on Broadway. I still have that dream inside of me.
Who are your favorite authors of all time?
These are some of my favorite books and their authors. I also love reading the classics such as Poe, Dickens, Thorough, Emerson, and the powerhouse writers like J.K. Rawlings & J.R.R. Tolkien. "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom, "Making Loss Matter" by Rabbi David Wolpe,"Letters to a Young Poet" by Rainer Marie Rilke, "To Draw Closer to God" by Henry B. Eyring, " A Grief Observed" by C. S. Lewis, "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho, "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok, "Dandelion Wine" by Ray Bradbury, “On Writing” by Stephen King
This actually comes up in my book. I LOVE Jelly Beans!
What do you do in your free time?
I co-founded a non-profit singing/service group called INSPIRE:music.service.hope. I am the music director of the group and I LOVE it! I work as a adolescent therapist in a wilderness therapy program called ANASAZI and I am so grateful to have a job I love! I also love doing things with my roommates, reading, traveling, and spending time with my family.
How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
To celebrate my book being published I had this big Book Signing Launch Party! I had it at this incredibly wicked awesome venue in Phoenix, AZ called THE DUCE. There was dancing, music, stuff to buy, books to sign, great food to eat. My friends from the bandFAT TREE played in the boxing ring, there was hula hoops, and bean bag toss, and so much more. It was a great way to celebrate a dream come true!
What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you'd be embarrassed to admit?
I am big fan of the CW and I watch the shows Nikita, Vampire Diaries & ARROW on HULU of course.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I bought my first comic book last year and I LOVE the Avengers. I am a huge Captain America fan and I wear a sweatshirt with his shield on it almost every day.
