Young Adult Dystopian Fiction

For years I have been reading a certain type of Young Adult (YA) Fiction that didn't seem to quite fit into any genre or specific type of novel—or so I thought. I was reading books with fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and so much more all wrapped up together with teen protagonists. I didn't really know where to place them but I LOVED reading them!

It wasn't until about a year or so ago that I started hearing about Dystopian YA Fiction. Dystopian fiction is all about social commentary and how if we don't change how we do things this is how we will end up. They can be futuristic, from the ancient past, apocalyptic, etc. Here are a few of my favorite Dystopian series.

You can read more about Dystopian YA in the New Yorker.

Also here is a list of 50+ Fantastic YA Dystopian Novels.

  1. Apparently I love Dystopian fiction as well! I just looked up a bunch of the authors in your sidebar and linked over to my local library and requested a bunch of the books you have listed here. I can't wait!! I really got into the Hunger Games and had to finish to the end. It's appalling at the same time as being riveting. She made me care so much about her characters, that I had to see how everything turned out even though I'm no warmonger. :) I also love mythology and since I can't get hubby to read, I requested Lightening Thief on CD for him. This is a whole new exciting world for me and I can't wait to read more of your reviews! It'll be like my own little personal Book Club. :D
